German coach Joachim Löw has nominated Andreas Hinkel for the two World Cup qualifying games against Liechtenstein on Saturday, September 6 and Finland on Wednesday, September 10.
The 26-year old defensive player is currently playing for Scotland’s champions Celtic Glasgow. He had his debut in the German team on April 30, 2003, in a game against Serbia-Montenegro. On September 3, 2005, Hinkel played his last game in the black-and-white uniform, a 2-0 defeat against Bratislava.
"Andreas is a regular with Celtic, where he has shown some good games", said Löw following Hinkel’s nomination.
Andreas Hinkel was called up as a replacement for Torsten Frings, who is out due to a nasal bone fracture. Captain Michael Ballack is also still doubtful as he still has problems with his foot.
