Soccernet - Bundesliga high-flyers Hamburg have snapped up five new players on Monday in an attempt to strengthen their push for the title.

Martin Jol's side, who are two points off the top of the table in third place, have signed Mickael Tavares from Slavia Prague on a three-and-a-half-year contract as well as Khalid Sinouh, Michael Gravgaard, Tomas Rincon and Albert Streit on loan.

Goalkeeper Sinouh, from Kasimpasa, will provide cover for first-choice stopper Frank Rost and centre-back Gravgaard will bolster the back line having signed temporarily from French side Nantes.

Venezuelan midfielder Rincon arrives on loan until the end of the season from Deportivo Tachira and Streit, who had fallen out of favour and requested a move from Bundesliga rivals Schalke, will stay at Hamburg until the summer. The transfer of Robbie Keane and Andrei Arshavin appear close to be being completed as the Transfer Deadline looms. Liverpool have agreed a fee with Tottenham for Keane who must now pass a medical to seal a return, while Arsenal have agreed terms with Zenit - though the Russian club are reportedly demanding payment from the player.
